# News from Chamilo

News from Chamilo is a small read-only panel that pulls official announcements from the Chamilo Association — this is where you'd learn about a new release or, importantly, a security patch you should apply.

## What It Shows and Where It Comes From

The panel fetches content from `version.chamilo.org/c/news/latest.php`, requesting it in your platform's interface language. The only thing your platform sends is that language code — no platform details, usage data, or contact information leave your server for this feature.

## Purpose

This is Chamilo's channel for reaching administrators directly about things that matter operationally: new version releases, and — most importantly — **security patches**. Since applying security patches promptly is one of the most effective things you can do to keep your platform safe (see the [Security Guide](/3.x/administration-guide/admin-guide/faq/security-guide.md)), it's worth glancing at this panel periodically rather than only checking when you happen to remember.

This feed loads independently of [Version Check](/3.x/administration-guide/admin-guide/other-admin-blocks/version-check.md) — you don't need to register your platform to see it.
