# Portal News

Despite the dashboard label "Portal news," this tool manages **system announcements** — platform-wide messages that can be scheduled, targeted by role, and optionally e-mailed out.

## Accessing Portal News

From the administration panel, click **Platform > Portal news**.

## Creating an Announcement

Each announcement has:

* **Title** and rich-text **content**
* **Start and end dates** — defaults to today through 7 days later; the announcement is only visible while the current date falls in this range
* **Language** — a specific language, or all languages
* **Roles (audience)** — including logged-out visitors, so you can target announcements at anonymous users, specific logged-in roles, or a mix of both
* **User group** — optionally restrict the announcement to a specific user group
* **Career** — if the **Link global announcements with careers and promotions** setting is enabled, you can also scope an announcement to a specific career/promotion path

## Sending by E-mail

Beyond just displaying the announcement, you can:

* **Send mail** — E-mails the announcement out to everyone in its target audience
* **Send a test e-mail to myself** — Preview what recipients will receive before committing
* **Add to calendar** — Available when creating an announcement, links it into the calendar as well

## Scope and Visibility

Announcements are scoped per access URL — on a multi-URL (multi-portal) install, each portal manages its own news independently. The admin list shows an active/inactive indicator per announcement, computed from its date range, and you can edit or delete announcements individually or in bulk.
