Dropbox

The dropbox is a file exchange tool that allows you and your learners to share files with each other within the course.

For collecting graded student work, the Assignments tool is usually more appropriate, as it includes grading and feedback features. The dropbox is better suited for informal file sharing.

Sending a File

  1. Open the Dropbox tool from the course homepage

  2. Click Share a new file

  3. Select the file to upload

  4. Choose the recipient(s) — one or more enrolled users or course groups

  5. Send

Receiving Files

When someone sends you a file, it appears in your dropbox inbox. You can:

  • Download the file

  • Add a comment to the file (after it has been received)

  • Move the file into one of your categories

  • Delete the file from your inbox

Organizing files

Both sent and received files can be organized into custom categories (folders). Use the category controls in the dropbox toolbar to create a category, then move files into it. If the platform setting "allow overwrite" is enabled, re-sending a file with the same name lets you overwrite the previous version.

You can also batch-download selected files as a ZIP.

As a Teacher

  • You can send files to individual learners, groups of learners, or all enrolled users

  • You can view files sent to you by learners

  • This tool is useful for sharing supplementary materials, providing individual feedback documents, or receiving informal submissions
