Blog

The blog tool lets you create a shared blog within your course. Learners can write posts, leave comments, and engage in structured writing activities.

Creating a Blog

  1. Open the Blog tool from the course homepage (under the cog icon at the top)

  2. Click New project

  3. Enter a title and optional subtitle

  4. Save

  5. Decide when you want to make it available to students by clicking the Show (eye) icon

You can create multiple blogs within a single course (e.g., one per topic or one per group).

Writing Blog Posts

  1. Open a blog

  2. Click New post

  3. Enter a title and write the post content using the rich-text editor

  4. Save

Both teachers and learners (depending on permissions) can create posts.

Comments and Ratings

Readers can interact with blog posts through:

  • Comments — Leave feedback or start a discussion under a post (comments can also be threaded as replies to other comments)

  • Ratings — Rate posts to highlight the most valued contributions

  • Attachments — Both posts and comments can carry file attachments

Blog Tasks

You can create tasks within a blog — specific writing assignments that learners must complete as blog posts. This is useful for:

  • Reflective journals

  • Weekly writing assignments

  • Project update reports

Managing the Blog

As the teacher, you can:

  • Edit or delete posts and comments (post deletion is restricted to the post author or to teachers)

  • Toggle blog visibility to show or hide the blog from learners

  • Define tasks — Add specific writing assignments learners are expected to complete as posts. Tasks can be color-coded for easier visual grouping.
